I attended the SIPTU Community Sector March against the Governments cutbacks today...
...I was not the only Wexford person there, above is a lovely group of Wexford Town Women proudly wearing the purple and gold.
This is the stage from which a variety of community groups made short speeches.
Sinn Fein were there, so were the Socialist Worker's Party.
This man dressed up in a suit for the event!
This lady had a wonderful homemade placard!
Cork People!
Here is Socialist Party Member of the European Parliament Joe Higgins talking to the media. I was proud to shake his hand.
It was a good day, excellent weather, people were in good humour. Between 12,000 and 15,000 marched, which was good for a Wednesday afternoon.
Definately!
ReplyDeleteMoonlite,
ReplyDeleteIt was fun, we marched up to the Dail (parliament) and showed them what we think of them.
Rory
Best wishes for a No Vote across Ireland!
ReplyDeleteThanks moonlite, fingers crossed. I'm worried now, was confident earlier, but there has been a big push for the Yes side in the right-wing media.
ReplyDeleteOh well,
Rory
Thanks for the report and the photos Rory. Glad it was a success.
ReplyDeleteYeah Garibaldy,
ReplyDeleteIt was good. There's plenty more protests lined up, I'm looking forward to my next day out in Dublin.
Rory
However I think marches and demonstrations are good ways to express your opinions. But personally I don't like sharing in them, it's out of my calm personality.
ReplyDeleteKeep Well!
Hi Mohamed,
ReplyDeleteDemonstrations are a good way of getting people together and out of their isolation and fear. I am going to another in Waterford City on Friday 6th November. I am looking forward to it!
Then it is on to more direct action (Strikes, Boycotts, Civil Disobedience). Our government though a combination of vicious health, welfare and public service cutbacks and a huge bank bail-out (NAMA) is trying to rob the working people of Ireland of all our wealth, and basically turn us back into serfs for the benefit of a small elite group of bankers and property developers.
Take care,
Rory
